March 11, 2010

Until then, I am sorry you skipped a step!  Everything posted here (minus this post) has been imported into the other blog.

Recognizing Spring

March 8, 2010

I walk out the door,
bracing by habit for the
chill that never comes.

Drifting

March 8, 2010

I hate to watch you drift,
De-purposed and lost,
Heavily bouncing,
painfully,
without intention,
Falling by accident into places of gravity,
Like “isolation”, “selfishness”, “love-sick”, or “college.”
You disavow your sacred charge to choose,
and fail to see that this is choice enough.
The world is, for you,
Formless and empty again,
Waiting for a word of creation.
This time, you must speak it.

Your mouth is closed, though.
Sealed against risk,
sealed against pressing despair.
Your mouth is closed,
And so formless and empty the world remains.
Uncreated.

Southern Storm

February 7, 2010

One sheet of ice, flows
From my home to my office.
Urgent work will wait.

Sonnet No. 2

February 3, 2010

A steady, constant sense of being us,
More firmly formed each day that passes by,
A greater love now mixed with greater trust,
Two arcs, we press still closer ’till we die.

Together you and I walk hand in hand.
We’re fueled by joy, but may be taught by pain
So that with greater strength we make our stand,
And may our faith and hope, our love sustain.

Although we know not where may lead our way,
And know not how the Lord may choose to bless,
We walk in faith together day by day,
And faithful love remains our greatest stress.

Dear Kelly, friend, my lover and my wife,
Tomorrow holds the best years of our life.

Gym Haiku for Winter

January 26, 2010

Summer is coming.
Time to hit the weights again,
Touch my round belly.

Sonnet No. 1

January 23, 2010

O Words! The entire code of verbs and nouns:
I love their gift: capacity to bless.
And cursing too! Such acrobatic sound!
The feeling formed, words can do the rest.

My friends – these words – I started with but few.
Like “Mama”, “Daddy”, “dog”,- then “Yes”, and “No.”
So over time more numerous they grew,
I hope my mind will ever make it so.

I try to pick with care which to deploy,
Which best my thoughts (some truth, at least,) convey.
A careless word can all my world destroy.
And so my friends do not your friend betray!

For if by words I’m bound to live my life,
I pray they steer me free from verbal strife.

Cautionary Pun

January 23, 2010

Love is a many splintered thing,
Blowing apart dangerously,
Debris flying everywhere.
Beware.

Sweeping

January 23, 2010

This is Spring cleaning:
Getting rid of leftover
Crumbs from wintry feasts.

Drastic

January 17, 2010

Something drastic,
Demanding attention, submission.
Unyielding, undenied,
Persisting, enduring.
Will it dissolve, succomb to its medium, will it accept dominant despair?
Will it disappear, leaving behind a hint of itself,
Reduced to a taste?
Hope.
Can hope stand its ground?
Can hope deny destiny,
deny despair,
deny probable power?
Hope, you drastic and stubborn thing.
